Toner Definitions
Genuine Brand (OEM): OEM stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer," i.e. the OEM for an HP printer would be brand new ink made by HP. When you see "Genuine Brand" or "OEM" it means that 1) the item is brand new, and 2) It was made by said name brand printer. These items come with the manufacturers warranty. We sell these items at CBS.
Compatible (Equal Brand): A compatible undergoes a rigorous quality control inspection process. First, the entire toner cartridge is disassembled. Any waste toner is eliminated, and all of the parts are thoroughly cleaned with compressed air. The next step is to reassemble the cartridge, replacing all components including the wipers, magnetic rollers, doctor blades and sensitive drum. Once the cartridge has be re-assembled, it is replenished with toner, tested, and finally packaged for shipment. Essentially you now have a new cartridge with only the casing itself being reused. We currently sell these items on our website and each cartridge comes with our Colson Warranty which can be found here.
Economy Version Compatible: Everything is the same as the above compatible definition -- even the warranty is the same. The difference lies in the country of origin. Most economy versions are made in China. They are called "economy version" because they cost less than other compatibles.
Refurbished (Remanufactured): A toner cartridge is first cleaned with compressed air and the magnetic rollers, doctor blades and photo-sensitive drum are generally not replaced but reused. We do not sell this type on our site, however, if you wish to know more about refurbished toner or would like to buy some then call us at 1-800-476-2266.
Refill: A refill toner cartridge is simply a used cartridge with a hole drilled into the cartridge and refilled with toner and then plugged. Refill toners have a high rate of failures and should never be used in laser printers. As a result, we at CBS do not sell or suggest the purchasing of refills.
